This is the country's smallest National Park covering an area of just 25 square miles, located approximately 280 miles south of Lusaka. The name given by the local people means "the smoke that thunders." Mosi-ao-Tunya is divided into two sections, with the great natural wonder of the world, Victoria Falls, on one side, and the other section consisting of a game park lying further west along the riverbank. From the park entrance, a network of walking trails leads visitors through thick vegetation to various viewpoints of the falls. Guests get a panoramic view of the falls from the Knife Edge footbridge, which is a narrow ridge of rock between the mainland and an island downstream. Other good viewing areas are Falls Bridge, Boiling Pot, Power Station, and the various gorges. Along with seeing the falls, gameviewing is very popular. The game park, north of the Maramba River is best known for its giraffe, but also contains eland, wildebeest, lechwe, impala, warthog, baboon and monkey. Elephants are known to migrate to the Zambian side from Zimbabwe in the height of the dry season.
